On the Sony website, they are currently offering a free upgrade to a double capacity battery. Anyone have experience with the battery time, does it really help with the horrible battery life I have been reading about.

Also with the Geoforce Go 6200 video card, is it a (non-integrated) dedicated 128MB card or only 32MB? I'm a little confused...How does the FS hold up to some modereate gameplay?

    TIA.

First, it's not really double capacity. It's 1 1/2 times capacity. I bought a clone version that I posted about in a different thread.

Expect about 4 1/2 hours for basic use including web surfing. For watching DVD's about 3 1/2 to 4 hours. Not sure about games, but I'd guess it would be less than DVDs because the CPU would be throttled up more.

Keep in mind that the high capacity battery is bigger/heavier than the standard battery. And it sticks out the back of the notebook about 1" and about 1/2" below. So it gives a tilt to the notebook when resting on a surface, which actually helps ventilation. It would actually make a nice handle to pick up the notebook. But with the flimsy plastic latches Sony uses, forget about it.

The nVidia graphics are a hybrid. It has 32mb of dedicated memory, and shares with the notebook memory for any more needed up to 128mb. It does give pretty good performance, though, much better than graphics that use only shared memory. I found it benchmarks almost 3x faster than my old notebook with a dedicated memory ATI 9200 card. And from other posts I've seen, it's almost as fast as a mobile ATI 9600. But still, it sounds like it is OK for some games, but not good enough for some of the more recent ones.

Oops, edited to add you were asking about the FS series. I have the S series, so not sure if the battery stuff applies. But maybe it helps some, and the video card is the same.
