If I choose to downgrade a TZ model down to Windows XP Pro, would it be better to use the instructions listed on this site or to use the cd's offered here: https://www.qdirect.net/Sony/Terms.aspx ?

Is one way better than the other?

Also, earlier in the week a rep from sony told me I could buy an accidental damage warranty from them as long as it was new. However, I just talked to Sony on the phone to ask them about buying their accidental damage warranty. The person I talked to said I could not buy the warranty separate unless I bought the computer new from a "brick and morter" store such as best buy. They said it could not be from an online store. Is this true or did I just get an uninformed service rep?

i don't know which is best, but i'd get the xp disks just to have a very good legit source

you can always say you don't like xp and went back to vista if anything is said if u don't install them

several folks in my classes ar doing that..............

You should always follow Sony instruction that come with their XP restore DVD on how to downgrade to XP. Only use notebookreviews instructions when official is not available.

There are several users on this forum purchased and registered 3 yr accidental insur. after they have used the laptop for some time. Of course, this might not be something Sony want to see. Its also possible that they will instroduce additional security mechanism block user from doing this. I would suggest go to buy and sell section on this forum and search for this seller that sells sony warranty. He should have a better knowledge on the current status.
