My model is VPCEB2Z1E with Windows 7 64-bit Home Edition

My battery is classified as " Good" by the VAIO control center, the highest rating possible.

I have my Power Plan in Windows Control Panel set to " Power Saver" and I have the screen brightness turned all the way down.

Nonetheless, when I am running on battery, the power supply is drained in less than 2 hours, even if I am just using OpenOffice, with no other applications running.

I watched the guy sitting next to me, with a MacBook, and observed that my battery drained 10 percentage points for every 1 of his...

I know that my battery should be lasting MUCH longer. Anyone have ideas as to why it's draining so quickly, considering?

    Thanks

What is your other setting like brightness.
This model was rated at max of 3.5 hours on battery.
However, I don't expect that much even with new battery.

Yeah, I have the brightness down as far as it will go. There must be something else...

Check task manager to see what program is using your processor cycles. Otherwise something else going on.

My task manager/resource monitor doesn't show anything suspicious. The CPU usage is generally below 5% if I'm not doing anything. I disabled most unnecessary services and startup items via MSCONFIG anyway. I also paused my antivirus.

None of that seems to make a difference. It still gives me about 1.5 hours on battery (and the screen brightness is so low I can hardly read anything). I notice the fan is continually running, although at low speed, is it supposed to do that on power save mode?

    Any other ideas?

If the processor is not taxed and the laptop does not feel hot then there is something else going on. Most likely the battery. I would advise sending it to Sony or looking for a replacement battery to find where the problem lies.
