I cannot install the shared library and utilities driver on the SR190's windows 7 64 bit page. I tried safe mode, run as admin, remove/enabling compatibility mode, reset BIOS, ect... It still just says "installing...may take a few minutes" and disspears, nothing happens, nothing is installed. Even a popup says "this install is for windows vista" sometimes. chatted with a rep online who then escalated the issue to phone support, who would love to charge my 49.99 because I bought over 12 months ago. I do have extended warranty but service net would have to handle that. What a hassle, I bet somebody here knows more!

Thus, my FN keys don't work for brightness (vol and mute works though..). I also have the "stuck" battery, where It's stuck at 80% max due to my previous battery care function in windows vista. i formated the HD and installed win 7 clean, but the battery is still capped. There is no driver for win 7 battery care function, so...? :(

Thank you anybody for any help!

I don't know if this will work for you, but I had some difficulties with the Sony Win 7 drivers on my SR290 too. What worked for me was:

    1. Clean install of Win 7.
    2. Install latest Intel Chipset Driver (from Intel, not Sony's version).
    3. Go online, run Windows Update (it installed a version of Sony's Firmware Extension Parser and a fingerprint reader driver for me).
    4. Turn UAC off.
    5. Installed the following Sony Win 7 drivers, in this order:
    Memcards
    Shared Library
    Setting Utility
    Event Service
    Control Center
    Function Settings

    6. Turn UAC back on.

VAIO Control Center works, with HDD Protection and Battery Care, as do my Fn keys.

Edit: I rebooted after each driver installation too. Also, I had Task Manager open and waited until each installation process disappeared from the Processes tab. One of them hung in there for a few minutes before quitting. Look for processes with names like "SOAVCC-bla, bla, bla.EXE" and wait for them to quit before rebooting.

thanks I'll give this a try. Sony said the drivers on the site have been causing issues and will upload fixed ones soon. not sure if it was a cop out because I was giving the rep heck for leaving me on hold 30 minutes

By the way, my battery suddenly charges to 100% now :) all I know I did for sure was reset bios and unplug/replug my battery. after a few power offs/power ons and leaving it plugged in for several hours it eventually kicked backed to normal.

yes i am beginning to think the windows 7 64bit drivers on the sony esupport site are garbage... i got all the fn key workings from using the FZ series driver... ONLY DRIVER RELATED SONY, do not use other system component drivers like the chipset driver etc...

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=429745

Btw... I just found a common problem in the sony drivers they provide... if you "install" them and don't get a "finish" message at the end, most likely the driver they provided is corrupted/badly coded. And those are the troublesome driver...

And all my fn woe was fixed by the following:

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO GET IT WORKING IS THE PARSER DRIVER FROM WINDOWS 7 UPDATE!!!!

The parser driver from sony is a piece of crap
