My Sony Vaio Pro 11 of less than three months:

    vaio11.jpg

It was under my arm in a Brenthaven padded ballistic nylon sleeve when it fell to the sidewalk right on the corner. The carbon fibre looks like it bent pretty easily causing the screen to shatter and peel away. The computer still booted up afterwards, screen still works, but the touch screen was unresponsive. Brought it into Sony repair for assessment and quoted me over $800 after taxes. It's safe to say that I'm not going to proceed and this is a total write-off. Frankly, I've dropped my ThinkPads from similar heights and never had such extensive damage. So be careful with those carbon fibre Vaio Pros.

I know how you feel, i bought my laptop for 3 month, never drop it but move it around alot, and now the fan making ridiculously loud noise, worst part is sony in ireland can not fix this and they quote My vaio pro was bought in thailand, not in EU. So this is how Sony move toward globalization? lol i guess not.

I'm assuming you have home owner's or rent insurance, it's worth a shot to see if they'll cover it. Say you knocked it off the bar or something.

yeah the corners are the weakest part of the glass on any screen when dropped so i'm not surprised. but i don't think the sony's laptop is supposed to be that rugged, it's only supposed to make it so that you can still recover your data if you do in fact drop it. which from what you've posted, it did just that.

That's the reason why they sell accidental damage protection plan.
I believe if it landed by its sides or flat, there would not severe damage.
It's a corner and as you know a small impact area would cause a big hit.

How bad is the damage to the lid/top cover? Sounds like you just need a screen. Have you checked prices on the web? The guys here are great - helped me replace my screen when I broke it.

Aside from the screen, the casing is warped. The facing palm rest area was also damaged.
