I accidentily dropped my laptop on the floor the other day. (inside, on carpet, but about a 1 metre drop) and the casing became loose on the bottom left where the fan is.

I think this may have caused some damaged to the fan... I noticed now that just doing idle things such as web browsing, the fan will be a bit 'noisier' than before where previously it would make more or less no sound. Also sometimes my CPU usage goes straight to 100 for simple/random tasks.. was just extracting UT game and the CPU usage went straight to 100 causing the fan to ROAR =/ Not sure if this is to do with the fan or the CPU may be damaged or neither?

Any suggestions on what I should do to find the problems, if any? Open it up and check (not sure), take it to some repair store? send it to Sony (although that takes forever -.-)

    Thanks

Mentioning the model would have been helpful.

But anyway - you pretty much named all possibilities - either open it up yourself (especially if you are out of warranty ) and check the FAN or send it to Sony if you are in warranty (if there are no noticeable damages you can always forget to say you dropped it ;) )

Sounds more like FAN issue (misalignment/defect), but it could also be a misaligned heatsink... If you are sure there is something different I would check it out / send it for repair...
