    Hi There,

I am thinking of buying a SZ2 with the VGP-PRSZ1 docking station to run an extended desktop over two 1280x1024 external monitors. It is apprently possible due to the fact that the docking station has two video outputs (one DVI and one VGA).

Has anybody ever tried to run two external monitors off the docking station? If yes, was there a big difference in image quality between the DVI and VGA port?

    Thanks, Fred.

Are you sure that you can run two monitors at the same time with this docking port?

I am very far from being sure that the docking station will be able to take two monitors at the same time. I have however spoke to a Sony rep who told it would definitely work but I am not sure if he really knows what he is talking about.

Anybody tried to use both the DVI ans VGA ports at the same time?

    Thanks.

From what I've heard it isn't possible to run two external monitors through the docking stations. My reccomendation would be the Matrox Dual Head 2 Go product. I've seen it work with the SZ and it worked well.

Thanks Nixon. I will definitely try the TripleHead2Go (might as well go for three...).
When you saw the SZ with the DualHead2Go was it connected to some LCD screens? If yes, what did you think of the image quality compared to a LCD connected to a DVI port?
    Thanks again, Fred.

The image quality seemed great. Nice and clear.

consider using one external LCD or CRT and the SZ laptop screen as your second monitor..

    Hi there,
Few months ago I was going through the exact same problem: I wanted to run on a vaio SZ an extended desktop over two 1280*1024 external monitors. Since the docking station has one VGA and one DVI-D output, I thought it would definitely be possible, but when I went to buy it at a sonystyle shop, we tried with a sony representative and… were unable to have both outputs of the docking station working together (note that due to the shape of the docking station, when the SZ is docked, it is not possible to plug a monitor to the laptop’s VGA socket).

So I was considering buying the Maxtor DualHead2Go that supports up to 2560 x 1024 depending on the system.
In order to check if your notebook is supported, Matrox offers the "DualHead2Go System Compatibility Tool".

Unfortunately when I ran it on my SZ160PC, the tool told me that my system was compatible with the DualHead2go but only up to a resolution of 2048 x 768…

I’ve tried in both Stamina and “speed” modes. Since PCSTATS review of the DualHead2Go says that
, I don’t understand why it couldn’t work when the laptop is set in “speed” mode (using the Nvidia GeForce Go 7400)…

So I was wondering if you succeeded to reach a resolution of 2 times 1280 by 1024 or you were stuck on 1024 by 768 on each monitor…

While I don't have one to confirm it, I've heard of a friend who got it working on Speed mode. He just ignored what the "compatability" tool told him and just did it and it worked.

You mean he got it working with a resolution of 1280 by 1024 on each screen?
