So at first, I didn't even notice the SZ, because I never really looked into the 13.3 and ultraportable notebooks. But I decided it might be nice to be able to take to school and back and whatnot when I go back to college, UNDER the circumstances that the thing won't crush under my heavy textbooks while carrying it in my backpack.
Also, is the premium version any more durable than the regular? It has a thinner profile and I heard the screen was a little bit more flimsy, which I'm not too worried about. My main concern was that the pressure on the lid will cause it to flex.. and scratch the screen against the keyboard.
    thanks!

i take my sz (regular model) to college every monday and so far haven't experienced any crushing or flexing of the lappie while in my bag - although it is in a notebooksleeve (which should prevent any damage from crushing and pressure in the bag as well as minor impact as far as i know). The premium model however has a carbon fibre chassis, which is supposedly stronger then the regular model, so i predict you should have no trouble slipping it in your bag and finding it still in a healthy condition when you remove it again.

I hear the premium is more fragile because of the thin screen, but have no first hand experience. You need to search the threads here.

I carry my SZ around a lot - its the non-premium, in a simple case with little padding. The case includes the AC adapter too which usually keeps colliding with the Lid of the SZ but never had a problem.

    Very durable IMO.

ok. So one person says, that the premium is 'supposedly' stronger.
and another says he 'heard' that the premium is more fragile?

does anybody really know? unless it doesn't make a big difference, then I don't really need to know.

also, how else does the premium compare with the regular, besides the darker interior, carbon lid, lid thickness, weight, and battery?
I'm worried about the build quality in particular, and if the premium presents even a little advantage in quality, I'd rather pay for the premium, instead of the core 2 duo.

The LCD screen is a different and better technology compared to the non-premium.

See my thread on what happened on a plane. Yes, the premium screen is thinner, but the carbon fiber it is made with is strong as heck. While some have had mixed build experiences, my SZ has been rock solid until its run-in with a plane seat. No cosmetic issues (none that I didn't put myself accidentally anyway), no hinge problems, nothing. Best laptop to date.

As for the other differences - are there any? lol Seriously ...those are the biggies. The guts and keyboard are the same. The only other difference may be processor/memory/HD, but all of the SZs (premium & non-premium) are essentially the same computers with different options and slightly different cases.

Some think the premiums are worth it. Others are not. Go to a Sony store which will have both (or a dealer near you) and compare.
