    EB2 2010 Intel® Core™ i5 processor 450M - 2.40GHz
    ATI® Mobility® Radeon® HD5650 1GB
    6GB Memory

    Cheaper

    F12 -2010 Intel® Core™ i3 processor 350M - 2.26GHz
    NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 330M 1GB
    4GB Memory

Concerned about the build of the EB people saying its a cheap Sony entry machine but the spec soinds great.

My main use is for Indesign, Photoshop, After Effects playing L4D2, MW2 now it be connected to an external monitor too.

However, the EB has only a resolution of 13XX something so would I be output to 1600 x 900 still regardless of the screen's native resolution?.

E Series is a good quality laptop. I have the EB3Z1E (i5, 4Gb, BR reader and 5650 graphics). I also have the full HD screen which is very nice indeed.

Compared to my old SZ1 (carbon fibre). OK, the EB is a bit heavier than the SZ, but at the same time the extra 2 inchs and resolution make me forget this. It would be nice if the case was magnesium or CF, but then it would be a few hundred pounds more.

Keyboard is great. Not backlit which you get in the F now. Its a small thing, I wish it was an option on the EB. But again, not a deal breaker.

I fitted a C300 SSD (256Gb) to my EB, this made it boot just as quick as my SZ1 (with the same C300). Upgraded the ram (8Gb), helps with VMs and some 64bit apps, but otherwise 6Gb in your build is more than enough.

The only fly in the ointment I found was the wireless. Others on these forums seem a bit peed when I bought this up. The wireless chip is 2.4Ghz only, 20Mhz only. Considering how cheap Intel 6200 or 6300 chips are, I think it sucks that sony put a cheap single channel card in such an otherwise super laptop. Anyway, its easy enough to upgrade (I posted how).

So, I am extremely happy with my EB. I was 'happy' when I opened the package and booted it, extremely happy now. Only thing I miss, backlit keyboard! but since I have never had one, or seen one in the flesh, this is pure specification envy!!!

    Hope the above helps.

No, not cheap. Its good, just not great. By great I would be comparing it to Carbon Fiber or Magnesium Alloy. Sony Z or Apple. Its still good though.
