    Just curious..

But since the Sony Vaio S15 has a rear exhaust, how effective would a laptop cooler be?

Right now, I have my laptop propped up with a book and two cans on the rear corners. The laptop is definitely a little cooler under load since it's not flat on a hot surface the whole time.

Would a regular laptop cooler still be effective?

I'm looking at something like the Zalman ZM-NC3.

    Thx.

I find mine to not need a cooler one bit. It even has an extra battery, which somewhat covers the exhaust even!

I thought it would be one crap of a cooling design, but there are quite a few advantages and it does keep it cool, as long as it is propped a little from the surface so that the vent can actually blow out the heat, and not have it hit the laptop back.

I have on a CoolerMaster U3 (I think it's a U3...) stand/cooler, but I enver turn the fan on, it is just used as a stand.
My ACCTO (Korean) Manager notebook stand on the other hand (which is perfect for any laptop with side exhaust fans) ain't working for it :D

I suggest only keeping the laptop rear up a little and free so the heat can go out. That's it. Get a cooler/stand which suits you as a stand primarily.

Does it really need a cooler though? Maybe just a stand will do. I've browse the S owner's thread and I haven't found one complaining about the temperature being high. Is it that loud under load btw?

I use the Coolermaster Notepal U2. It works great. The two fans can be positioned anywhere. The S15 hot spots are on the right side. U3 has three removable fans but it is a bit larger.

OP, does your S15 run hot? Most do not, but the occasional bad thermal paste job sneaks out the factory like my SA (13.3" S series) and they run very hot.

I have an FZ. I've tried different coolers and the best one by far has been the zalman notebook cooler zm-nc3000. It definitely cools it down. In the winter turning it on at max can make it too cold to work on...

Mine do not run hot, but I was just curious what others did. If I was going to get a stand, I thought I would pay the extra money and get a notebook cooler at the same time?
