I don't think there is a battery space cover for any laptops, why don't you want to stick your battery in there?

If it's not sitting right on your desk because the battery is out, then I you should put it back in, it won't hurt it or the computer. But if it's not causing any problems, then there's no reason to put anything in there.

Wouldn't the life of the battery last longer if removed when not used?

The battery life span will be slightly longer, but it's not very significant. It's not like your battery is going to die years and years earlier in your notebook vs. stored. Also, you say that you use your laptop mostly plugged in, so why are you worrying so much about battery life span and longevity when you don't even use it, or if you do use it it's only sparingly?

i heard if you keep on charging your battery(any kind not just laptop) or leave it on all the time with your notebook plugged in, the life span and longevity will decrease dramatically within a year.

did your battery perform the same after 6 months your purchase?

It actually performs just about the same as 15 months ago when I bought it. NHC reports 15% battery wear in this period of time.

Also, once the battery is recharged, the AC doesn't keep feeding it power, thus it's not constantly recharging.

The only difference between keeping it in and the fridge is the difference in temperature. That's what keeps the battery "fresher". But there is no difference in the amount of power it gets in laptop vs fridge because like I said before, the AC stops charging it when full and it just sits there.

No it's not. Cept when your power goes out it will also shut down. The battery is just like an UPC for desktops.

In my experience, keeping the battery there will significantly shorten the battery life expectancy. Mine died just 6 to 9 months after I bought it. Completely dead. This is Lithium Ion with my 6.5 year old Sony PCG-SR series.

So now, with my SZ, once I got the battery fully charged, I took it out and never put it back in unless I have a good reason to do so. Besides, not having the battery means a cut of 0.5 ounces in weight. Very noticeable when I carry it around.

That's exactly why I dont want to have the battery on all the time.... I would only use it if I need to take my sz on the road....

so is there anything I could cover the space in with? maybe something that looks just like the vaio sz battery without the battery inside? lol

I am not aware of anybody selling something like that. Are you worry about the aesthetic that it would look ugly without the battery in? I would suggest to keep your notebook without putting anything to the battery compartment. Anything you can take out to keep the weight low is worth it.

But if you are flying a lot, you may want to keep the battery with you even if you won't use it. They may ask you to turn it on to proof that it is not a bomb.
