Sometimes when I click S1 (i.e. press it briefly), nothing appears to happen. Then suddenly about 6-10 seconds later, the 'special button configuration' dialog will pop up, as if I'd have held down the button for several seconds.
FYI, I have my S1 button configured to Hibernate.
It's not a huge issue but mildly irritating all the same. If I dismiss the config dialog and press the S1 button again, 9 out of 10 times it will respond properly and hibernate as I intended.
I was reminded of this today because the new firmware available for UK, on www.vaio-link.com (version R2140M3) blurb claims:
... which sounded to me like it would fix my issue.
But ZoinksS2k mentioned in this thread that the 'new' BIOS appeared to be the same as previously released in other regions. (I've already applied the update from the JP site.)
Does anyone else suffer this issue with the S1/S2 buttons?

I would reflash the BIOS from your region - just to be safe anyway

The BIOS will not re-flash if image of the same version is already installed. The BIOS identifies the machine not by its marketing name (i.e. Z90 in Japan, or Z590 in the US, or Z27 in Asia, etc.), but by the model number. So the BIOS you may have downloaded from Sony Japan updates page is the same as the one from vaio-link.com, etc.
Regarding the S1/S2 buttons not working properly, I have not experienced this. But then again, I do not have "hybernate" programmed to either one of these. Also, I am on Vista x64 (most of the time), and if I remember it correctly InfyMcGirk runs XP.
Generally I find the H2O EFI BIOS in this machine leaves a lot to be desired.
Erratic behaviour from the S1/S2 buttons on my Z
