    Hi,

I am trying to create the recovery discs (3 of them) for the Vaio Z. However, each time I do it, an error would occur while verifying the disc resulting in:

    - An error occurred while verifying the disc.
Close this program, restart ur computer then start the process again with a new disc.

    Discard previous disc. [1287][2048000]

ive done this 3 times and each time resulting in this error. Anyone else seen this before? A solution to it would be great, thank u!

If using DVD-R, try using DVD+R disks instead. Some Matsushita drives seem to dislike certain DVD-R disks.

Yeah, I got EXACTLY the same problem with my Z .. I called sony, I lost like 2 hours on the phone with them and finally they decided they will send me a free set of recovery disks, which I got a few days ago.

The good part is their disks do not work properly either. It will install windows/apps/drivers but it will not finalize the instalation somehow, and all I get is: "windows was not properly installed" and an "OK" button. As soon I click on the OK the computer restarts. I tried all the methods (recovery for drive C, for all computer, etc). So .. whatever!!! I ended up doing a clean vista install and I used the Sony Recov Disks to ONLY install the drivers, all at once. At least that worked!

I did (and got the same error message) for like 15 times/DVDs. 4 times on my own, the rest with the sony customer service. Much much easier to just pay $15 to get the disks, or not pay at all since they don't work anyway. I had no problem burning with the same laptop on the same type of DVDs, up to 4.5GB of data, movies, etc. Just not the recovery :)

I had problem creating a set of disc as well. Call support and was instructed to turn all programs off. Turn off wifi, do not attach anything. So, I did it, and was successful to create the set. BTW, their web site has the same instructions.

Well, the guy that kept me on the phone for 2 hours didn't tell me that, so I didn't turn off the wifi (nothing attached). He made me restart several times, uninstall/install the DVD driver a few times, and other stuff like this, nothing helped.

    Hi

For what its worth, if anyone experiencing this problem is still looking for a fix - I have a FW-31E and could not create recovery disks (same issue). I got round this in the end by ending all programs/processes etc/turing off wi-fi etc. But then i checked updates for Vaio on the Sony website and found an update for the recovery centre. After installing this update, i managed to create the recovery disks first attempt!!!
