Does swapping out a HDD void the warranty?
I ask since I glanced over at the disassembly guide for the SZ-Series and all I have to say is, OMG...
-
The process is quite long and lengthy, and does invlove quite a bit of disasembly, but it shouldn't void the warranty. With almost all other notebook manufacturers, the hard disk is upgradebale and the warranty is not at all affected. The same can be said for the Sony SZ.

HD and RAM upgrades do not usually void warranties, in most cases.

Getting to the HDD requires a few steps I don't think are reversable. Well it's pretty much all about the stickers and tape inside.
Since you're going to have to tear/remove the filament tape, cover tape, and Sheet (MG KB5), I don't know if Sony would look at it and say, Hey wait a minute... this has been opened before! Void. heh
Anyone know if the tape and Sheets are useable? -
Yes, they are. Just be extra careful when you're peeling them.
-
Have you done it? Is it best to do the swap when the notebook is warm (adhesive easier to remove?) or from a cold start.
-
I think that a RAM upgrad doesn't void warranty, but for changing the hdd you need to open the case and a lot more so sony will sure make problems when you have to send in your vaio for repair...
-
Yes, I've done it on my SZ370 that I've just sold. I did the swap when it is "cold" though....

any pics of how to do this?
