Just about getting ready to order new FZ4000 CTO and was wondering about getting the extended warranty or not. Is it worth it? Will the Sony hold up say 3years? I treat my notebooks very well.

Adding a 3 year warranty doesn't give you 4 total, Right? That's counting the year you get anyway.

I didn't get it. My SZ is now 20 months old and out of warranty. I really wish I had the 3 year warranty.

Currently, the fan make a terrible noise, the dvd drive won't play movies or burn dvds, the case at the right front edge is separating, and the battery life is down to about an hour. With the warranty, I'd just get it fixed and keep using it. Without the warranty I need to buy a new laptop since the price of repairs is too much to make repair worthwhile.

In the first year, they replaced the hard drive, the motherboard, the battery, and several of the little rubber feet on the bottom.

is it true that you can extend your warranty if you still have the initial warranty on the laptop

Yes, but is cost more vs purchasing it up front with the laptop
    Been there a few times.

    Go here for cheaper warranty:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=195737

You can purchase extended warranty as long as you have some warranty left on a notebook. Typically though the offered price for this goes up over time unless you find a special circumstance.

As long as you have atleast a month left on your existing Vaio warranty you can purchase it and register it perfectly fine. I had someone purchase my warranty that got there laptop off ebay and wasn't sure when it was originally purchased but he was still able to register it fine and called to double check to see if everything was good.
