you would simply call up sony and as long as you have atleats 30 days in your reg warranty, they will send you a package (whichever warranty you picked), then you register it to your computer

i found out that you can buy the same packages sony offers from other places (same warranty package, just fill it out, etc) - got mine for $70 cheaper than sony charges:

I was talking to a retailer friend that i have who lives in another state and he was saying it would be hard to get a warranty for a product that was purchased for someone else then that person sold it to me. Is that true do i really need a receipt to be eligible for a warranty or even upgrading the warranty to a 3 year?

i dont think so just because the sonys have a service tag number which means they should have info on your warranty

dell def doesn't need a receipt because of the service tag number

I was just asking that because i want to buy sponsi's TZ but he has no receipt and i was talking to a sony retailer i know in kansas that was saying i would get screwed on warranty. So if i buy sponsi's laptop theres no problem that he has no receipt?

If you are going to buy the warranty from Provantage, you should ask them about it.

its a package that you sign up online, where you enter the package serial number/warranty number, enter your laptop info and activate it

    Hello

Normally for sony's Extended warranty you are only allowed to buy an extended warranty if you're within the 11 month period starting on the purchased date and it better if youre getting a Accidental damage protection plan. Normally you can call them to avail the warranty. This warranty and prices. This is from sony.
    2 Year Onsite Service Plan for Notebooks - [ $159.99 ]
    3 Year Onsite Service Plan for Notebooks - [ $279.99 ]
    4 Year Onsite Service Plan for Notebooks - [ $399.99 ]
    5 Year Onsite Service Plan for Notebooks - [ $449.99 ]
2 Year Onsite Service Plan plus Accidental Damage from Handling Protection - [ $279.99 ]
3 Year Onsite Service Plan plus Accidental Damage from Handling Protection - [ $449.99 ]

signed up my Sony 2 Year Onsite Service Plan plus Accidental Damage from Handling Protection which i bought form Provantage.com ($130, retails $280 as shown above) and everythign went as smooth as can be - remember, this is not provantage's warranty, this is sonys official onsite warranty for sony vaio laptops

i have already confirmed with sony, within 1 hour after signing up the warranty package that it expires 2 years from the date "i put" that i purchased it, which is the day i received it from the ebay auction.

it was a display model for a store behind a glass case meaning the original warranty prob started in august but i put the day i received it in the mail from the auction (10/9) and i said i got it from best buy. I called and the very nice lady explained the whole process and that my warranty lasts until 10/9/1009. and that, because they have all my information, i would NOT need my original receipt when filing a claim or when they fix it, and because its an onsite warranty, they usually come within 3 days to your house and fix it right there.

i would def buy vaio warrantys from provantage or other places like newegg to save money (provantage is the cheapest i can find) - you simply receive a pamphlet in the mail with the warranty registration code an instructions to register online - or mail, or phone, etc.

not really for me? because mine still had a warranty, perhaps i shouldnt of added part at the end (just took it out)

but its good news for someone who buys off ebay without the original receipt included, but still has a warranty

and still the website offers the warranties for much cheaper than what sony charges - almost 50% off or more. so thats good news in general
