So I've been carrying around my Z for a while and for most of the time, people mistakenly think it's a SR
"Hey, is that a new SR?"
"My boyfriend has the same SR! Why didn't you get in silver?"

I've never seen SR in person but does it look exactly the same as Z except the screen size?

I paid $700 more for so called premium quality but I wish there were some distinguishable features besides build quality, HDMI, etc...
Maybe a "Z" logo on the cover or different power button? Just a thought...

hmm.. it look a lil different.. for some reason, i can distinguish it from far.
i would say it look about 90% similar.

the stamina / speed button is the most obvious lacking
    same goes for the mousepad.

but i guess u're lucky that they didn't comment..
"how come your TZ is so big in size.. is that a fake?" :D

I suspect it's because they have been marketing the SR more than they have for the Z. The SR is the more consumer oriented product and more widely available as well. Also, I think they had some back-to-school specials on the SR which helped to bring it to the attention of more people.

what grOOvyOne says + the new vaio series is recognizable by the shiny green power button light. For a product comparison and more technical details, simply visit www.sonystyle.com.

too bad nobody will mistaken my SZ for Z :(

Anyhow, Sony's new line of laptops has many things in common (cylindrical hinged, glowing green/orange light, keyboard layout) so I guess one can mistake them "at first sight".

ah, you guys are silly, the SR and the Z are nearly identical in terms of external appearence. The only difference is that the Z is a 16:9 ratio screen, so its a bit shorter and wider(the screen that is), but im pretty sure the bottom portion is identical(keyboard area, etc., internals). The SR bottom portion even has a cutout for the HDMI port on the Z.

The Z and SR are succesors the SZ premium and SZ, respectively. The Z has switch, 13.1 inch 16:9 ratio screen, dual lamps, hdmi, and carbon fiber. The SR is 13.3 inch 16:10 screen, and magnesium alloy. The primary differences are some features... but they are essentially the same machine internally speaking(with the exception of some premium features/ports/screen)

although, i wish more people confused my SR for a Z! (1400 dollar machine vs. 1800 dollar machine)

So, leggysoe thanks to thebigpants27..simply memorize and quote the above exact lines the next time someone confuses your machine with a SR and you'll be knocking them of their feet :)

my sz is more distinguishable and unique than the Z. Z looks exactly like the SR. if you expect people to notice a difference you wont, unless you open them both up.

The sz (at least the one i have) has a grainy texture, not too sure why they removed it for the Z. at least it made it look unique.

well the Z doesnt use "lamps" it uses LED backlights
and yeah the Z's screen is bright, a bit brighter than the SR.. its the contrast on the Z's screen that's low
