    All,

I recently purchased a Sony Vaio Y series. I have it plugged into a 20" HP 2009m monitor.

When I first plugged in the monitor I was able to use the 1600x900 resolution. I then tried to extend the desktop to use the external monitor and laptop screens at the same time. Ever since doing that I have not been able to get back to 1600x900 resolution on the external monitor. The options max out at either:

    (a) 1360x768 (recommended)
    (b) 1440x700

1600x900 no longer appears as an option. Since then I have tried:

    (a) updating drivers
    (b) reinstalling the original Intel graphics driver via the Sony Support website. I did NOT go directly to Intel b/c it sounds like OEM modifications could create problems if I were to use Intel's generic driver.
    (c) Switching between various displays as the primary (laptop vs. external monitor)
    (d) unplugging the power supply from the monitor (suggested on another thread)
    (e) uninstalling and reinstalling the devices (HP monitor, Generic PnP display).

The monitor is connected to the computer via VGA cable. According to Sony's website the graphics card should be able to power a monitor up to 2048x1536.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
