I'm getting a little desperate for an answer. When I attach an LG 22" 1920x1080 monitor it eventually starts to slow down. Video won't load properly, the mouse starts jerking, etc. This is the secing F-11 I've had this issue with. I don't see memeory leakage but I have 8 gigs of ram, I loaded drivers carefully, and checked each, but the heck of it is that the laptop works perfectly when I remove the monitor. Could it be the monitor itself? It works with my SR & AW. Both are Vista machines though.

If anybody has had this problem or has any insight into a solution, it would be appreciated.

PS - I want to use the monitor because of eye sight issues.

Well here’s a resolution to my silly situation. To recap: the 1st F-11 I received and the 2nd slowed down, after about an hour, when attached to an external monitor. I tried everything because I was convinced it had to be software related. Finally I went to Best Buy and talked to the fellow with the Geek Squad. I explained what was happening and he immediately said he knew what the problem was….guaranteed. He said that the graphics chip is over heating because of poor placement in relation to the heat sink. Said he’d seen it before, that it’s a manufacturers defect, and that if I kept the lid open, the laptop should run fine.

I took this with a grain of salt because, after all, nobody on the forums has companied about this problem that I know of, this is the second F-11 laptop this happened on, and this has never happened with any other laptop I’ve owned.

Well, I got home, hooked up the external monitor with the lid open, and it runs just the way it’s supposed to. Close the lid and it starts to slow down again. Has anyone else had this issue with an F-11? Would anyone mind checking? Is there an unobtrusive fan I could use to cool the laptop with the lid closed. Kind of limits my option to have to have the lid open al of the time to use my beautiful external monitor.

    Thanks.

Could be due to the fact that the laptop is entering a power saving mode when you close the lid? Go to windows power options and select "do nothing" for closing the lid. Also, try high performance mode in the power settings.

Try gpu-z to monitor your graphics temp with the lid open/closed

I have it on never sleep. It has to do with ventilation I think. I just starts to throttle down after awhile when the lid is closed. I don't know what the mechanics of it are but the Geek Squad guy was right...with the lid up while hooked up to an external monitor the laptop never slows (throttles) down. With the lid down it starts to slow down after an hour or so.

But I really don't know for certain why 2 F-11's act the same way when attached to an external monitor. Could it be the monitor?

What are you doing on it at the time....

Shutting the Screen is stopping air threw through the keyboard... same issue with old Macbooks.. they would get hot and noisy .... when you ran in screen closed.. BTW you dont need to set it up with NO sleep ... moving the mouse or touching a key will wake it even when closed

I'm using vga. It's the darndest thing...for example...I'll start a video on msnbc with the lid of the laptop up and it plays as expected. I play the same video with the lid closed and it starts stuttering. Or I'll start a video with the lid up and its plays as expected and if I close the lid 1/2 way through..the video starts stuttering.

I appreciate your help by the way.
