    Hello!

I am the proud owner of a Vaio VPCF13BFX, and have only had two complaints thus far after a year and a half of use.

The first was a 17$ fix out of eBay - replace the power jack when it inevitably failed as so many Sony laptop power jacks do.

The other issue was the fan - I tried everything - disabled many startup, watched which programs seemed to trigger it - etc - nothing shut this fan up from full speed at almost all times.

The answer was spring cleaning - I tool the Vaio apart, chipped off all old thermal paste that had become a rock, and blew out the fan assembly from both ends - CHUNKS came out - and I am a clean person at my desk - no food or drink. They just accumulate.

After new thermal paste and re-assembly, I have not heard the fan at all - running three adobe CS5 suite programs at once and nothing but a whisper!

Hope this helps others with loud fan issues.

    Steven

    LOL !

I did plug it in :)

It wasn't really that bad at all - half an hour project maybe?

Worth every second of my time 4 times over.

@StevenLutz Great to know your fan is running very quiet now. Did you take any pictures during the process by any chance? It would be great to see what I'm getting into before I start fixing the fan noise on my VPC115FMB. Do post some pictures here if you have some.

I did not do photos this time, but I am approaching the need to do it again anyway LOL

Three cats (not by my choice) and hardwood floors are not processor friendly!
