I am unable to find a definite answer, but does the "VAIO Display" rather than "VAIO Premium Display" have anti-glare i.e. matte? Or is that premium only? (EU version)
-
yes, both have it
-
My Z12 with premium Full HD is a semi-matte finish
-
vaio display should be just the normal type.
e.g. 1 bulb
it should be reflective type.
e.g. vaio EA16 -
Contradicting answers again
-
from what i know, there are mainly 3 different types
vaio display
- e.g. vaio EA series
- glossy type screen
vaio display plus
- e.g. vaio S series
- glossy type screen
vaio display premium
- e.g. vaio Z series
- matte type screen
all these uses LED-backlight
****
if it state
Clear Bright LCD Lite
- e.g. vaio FZ (selected models)
- TFT with 1 lamp
Clear Bright LCD
- e.g. vaio TR
- TFT with 2 lamp
all these should be using CCFL technology -
i believe that both the 1600x900 and 1920x1080 have the same finish
the 1600x900 was the screen when the new z model first came out (which probably carried on from the previous z model), which always had the matte finish
if the 1600x900 were not matte and the 1920x1080 were matte, then you'd see people comparing the non-matte and the "new" matte z screens non-stop on this forum, and this clearly isnt the case
and furthermore, there is a big difference between glossy and matte, if sony were to offer both, they would make the distinction between the screens clear on their site (sony would stress the different finishes of the screens under "more info" in the screen section when you customize the laptop). but from what i know, the only main difference is the resolution
so as far as i know, the z has been matte since 2008 -
Just to confirm "VAIO Display" found on some of the lower F series laptops is glossy, probably only 1 lamp and very bad for colours. Going to be taking this purchase back ASAP and getting one with a proper screen instead!

My z555 is matte and it's an amazing screen. I'm looking forward to being wowed by my 1290 when it arrives.
-
You guys, Z1290 w/1920x1080 screen is SEMI-matte. I know this because my TZ350N is FULL-glossy, my HP LP1965 monitor is FULL-matte, and the Z1290 is IN-between hence SEMI-matte.
-
we just like to call it matte because there's no glass in front of it, and typing semi-matte is more difficult
-
From what i could tell this is about the F series. I edited that to reflect that in the thread title.
I would suggest that you may be also post in the F series owners thread if you have any doubts still.
