I currently own an FS series laptop. I love the thing other than the absolutely craptastic plastic latch mechanism that is just begging to be broken off. Did the FE remedy this problem?

Haha good phrase. Anyways, from what I've seen and read, it sounds like the FE is a good machine but it's made out of bottle plastic. If Sony put some effort into making it durable they'd have a perfect computer. I'm all about the X-Brite.

So I checked one of the FE series out at Best Buy. I have to say I was not impressed. The FS design and construction looks and feels a lot more solid. The latch mechanism is different, but still looks like it could easily break. The latch on the FE looks like it might be replaceable without major surgery. Does anyone know if that is true? I think I like the feel of the keyboard a little more on the FE, but the plastic quality looks like it will get dirty or greasy very quickly. I'm sure the thing performs better than my FS, but I still think the FS looks a little more glamorous, which is a lot of the appeal of buying a Sony in the first place.
