Hello everybody. Just got my vgnfe17 vaio. Did the back up of the soft that was located on the hidden partition and formated intending to have a clean OS only space but after the process was compited i found out that all the 3d party software is back. I've done the whole procedure again but this time after installing the OS i've aborted the installation of all the bundled soft. And still progs like Sonic Stage and Win DVD got installed.
Is there a way of having and absolutely clean Windows installation?
I'm working with cpu and ram demanding applications like Cubase and Ableton Live and don't need anything except them on my Vaio.

I'm finally going to have my FE tonight; I'm going to do the back-up, but then I'm going to try an actually clean install (not just one that goes through the recovery CDs). I'll write down whatever problems I run into.

Absolute clean install is going to be difficult from what I know. I did the same as you (I have it backed up on 2 DVDs) and just didn't put in the second DVD. This got rid of most 3rd party stuff but most of Sonys stuff is still on there. I am no expert so I don't know which of these programs are necessary to run the computer (e.g. shortcut buttons, FN key, etc.) and which I can dispense off. I also heard of problems if you use your own OS disk.

On the other hand if you can see the programs in the "Add or remove prgrams" list you could just go ahead and deinstall it then if you know you won't need them. Not as great as a clean install, but at least they won't take up system space.
