    Hi everybody,

Am very interested to know what owners of the FE series have to say after starting the laptop for the first time.
What are the experiences, what are the good and the bad points, are there any regrets, any features more or worse then expected.

Am curious as i am thinking about buying one :)

I bought the FE11H last week and am very pleased with it...

    Positives:
    • The screen is superb
    • It runs very quietly
    • Good keyboard
    • 7400 Go has 128Mb dedicated and has had no problem with the games I have tried (inc Doom 3)

    Negatives:
    • The battery life seems to be around 2.5hrs. I hoped for a little more, but it may improve as the battery is 'conditioned'
    • There's a fair amount of pre-installed software (but this isn't hard to uninstall - Norton will be coming off once the 90 day subscription expires)
    • 7Gb is used for the recovery partition, but it looks like this can be done away with once you create the recovery CD/DVD's.

I think that's about it. I've found it to be a good balance between power and portability. Interested to hear other people's thoughts

Nice poweful notebook. Not very portable though. Battery life and huge powerbrick are to blame.

If you don't plan to carry it everywhere you go, I think this is an excellent notebook. If you need a very portable notebook that relies on batteries while away from desk I would look for something else

Just saw a demo unit (FE550) at local Best Buy just a week ago.

    What I liked:

    - Exceptionally clear and bright screen

    - New "TX series style" keys is a nice touch.

    What I didnt:

    - Unlike the FS series, the laptop is "pearl white". Looking closely, the unit literally sparkles with a weird light-pinkish glitter. Well, let's just say that doesn't appeal much to dudes like me. :p

    - Apart from the lid which I assume is made of magnesium alloy, the whole exterior of the laptop seems to be made out of plastic.

    - Over "squarish" design makes the FE half as stylish as the FS.

    Hope this helps.

It looks great, a little bigger than I thought. But overall I like it, I choose it over the SZ because of the price, looks nicer, and the bigger screen.

Maybe the shop put some extra glitter on that unit? Never seen any glittery thing on mine.

The bottom is the same material as the lid. The part that is made from plastic is the area around trhe keyboard and the the area sourounding the screen. And I agree, it needs some improvement on that part.

Re heavy power packs- kingston are doing a super light power pack that operates with a wide variety of notebooks including VAIO. I saw it over the weekend in PC World, and even with all the packaging it's incredibly light. It's £60, so if I decide i'm going to take my FE around with me, I may invest in one of those. Honestly, it's tiny- the actual adapter is about the size of er... lemme see, is it the Peugot range that does the credit-card remote control style keys for cars? Not a car person, so really don't know, but if you know what I'm talking about, that's the kind of adapter the kingston has.
