i am planning to order my fe from sonystyle.com, and in order to get an estimate for customs, im curious if fe's are assembled in the usa, because for me this would mean not paying duty :)

    im in toronto canada btw...

I would say it is highly unlikely. Almost all notebooks are made in Asia.

All of the custom built FE's (i.e. FE690's) are built in the US (down in San Diego) so that should help you on customs. Pretty much if it's a pre-buit unit, it's most likely built in Japan or China, but any custom configs are assembled here in the US.

Sonystyle Canada does not carry custom built notebooks. Getting one from the USA will likely void your warranty, as the Sony warranty is not international.

    try http://www.portableone.com

I live in Ontario, Canada and purchased mine from there.. duty ended up being about 7-9% (no tax of course, just duty). They have the models you are probably looking for and you can email or call them to customize

    Very helpful people there.

oh and BTW: photoshop doesn't depend on the GPU. RAM more than anything.

if you did not pay any duty how much did you pay for taxes and shipping? My initial plan was to have it shipped from sony to a relative in st liouse then my relative would send it to me, but i started having doubts with all the confusion in regards to taxes and duty

    thnx!
