FE890 CTO with Xbrite-Hi and geforce 7600, is it gray or white?

Hi,


I confuse about the color of the FE890 CTO model. It said on the specification sheet that the new gray color only available for Xbrite-ECO only (so it means we shouldn't be able to get Nvidia 7600 installed in the gray color). I read in some topics of this forum and found a guy got it in gray while the other got it in white. I called Sony about this but they said all FE890 will be in gray. can anybody pls confirm about the color for me? Anyone received the FE890 CTO with Xbrite-Hi color and Nvidia 7600 yet? If so which color did you get? It is not that white is not nice or anything, I just prefer the newer color. And most of all, I want to know exactly what I would get for my $1500+ investment. I think the FE890 CTO with Xbrite-Hi and geforce 7600 is definitely white (just as the specs say).

It is definitely white. I also got FE890 CTO with Xbrite-Hi and goforce 7600 and it is "WHITE". I think you should get geforce 7400 to get gray color model. For me, white color was ok too. Contrary to what people said about this laptop, this laptop works perfectly well so far.

 

Thank you SPEEDwithJJ and dark-kingdom for the response. I also thought it would be white as well. But according to the thread below, Rfschoute said he received his FE890 CTO with Xbrite-Hi color and 7600 in gray. That is what confuses me.

dark-kingdom, would you mind sharing what the spec of your customized FE? I am thinking of getting T7200, 2GB ram, Xbrite-Hi + 7600, 100 GB HDD, and bluetooth. Do u think it's better to get just 1x1GB ram and buy another 1GB from the internet? Any suggestion for HDD? Thank you.

My spec:

T5500 - Core2 Duo 1.66 GHz
2GB ram
Xbrite-Hi/GeForce 7600
100 GB HDD

For HDD, the recovery partition is about 18.5GB. Vista takes up almost 15 GB. The actual amount of available space would be (100 - 18.5-15). For the RAM, I recommend to get 2 GB instead of buying it later unless you decide to buy it a long time later. I think it is cheaper.

 

Xbrite Hi-Color (w/NVIDIA 7600) = Pearl White
Xbrite Eco (NVIDIA 7400) = Dark Grey

Some people think the tone of white on the lid of the Hi-Color model looks light grey (it's actually off-white), so the confusion might come from that. I think it looks great in both colors, but the white is better for typing in the dark (for the occasion where you have to glance at the keyboard).

I've seen both models in person and while the Hi-Color model is drastically brighter than the Eco (since it has two bulbs versus the one in the Eco), I find that the Eco display is smoother (especially on whites, etc.)

 

Thanks Sowelu. You are right. A friend of mine just received his FE890 CTO with Xbrite-Hi color and NVIDIA 7600 today and it is in WHITE, not gray. So this confirms your answer about the color of the CTO model.

 

I just got my 890 monday and as it was stated above it is definitely off-white if you opt for the go7600.

 

hmmmm...im confused...

I ordered an 890 and they sent me the grey one but I chose just the Intel graphics card...I had preconfigured it and asked for the white color though...

also--what is the difference between the xbrite-hi and xbrite-eco screen...how can you tell which one you have?
