FINALLY got my TZ-195N! but I need some help, so if u have some time I'd appreciate it!

So I am loving this, thing I even got a cooskin for it but its kinda annoying cuz it moves alot, anyways onto my problem, I cant seem to find anything about this in the forum or on google, so the pc just does such random stuff sometimes, if I leave the pc sitting by itself it jut goes into idle and twice when I've pressed the space bar to pull it back into normal mode it just like flickers once or twice then freezes and I have to press the power button and when I turn it back on it says the system suffered an error, second when I pop in a dvd it automatically plays in windows media player and it doesnt give me the option of starting it in another program and if I close the media player it keeps playing so I have to reopen the media player physically play stop and then open it in intervideo win dvd, also if the dvd is sitting in there when I am NOT playing it sometimes the drive just randomly starts spinning and sometimes it just begins to play, how do I stop all this, im am gonna do a fresh reinstall of vista with the P1 disc, will that help?

 

dude sound like u got a defective unit. where did u get it? send that back and get another one. Don't bother trying to even fix it, if my unit got to me like that i'd call back crazy mad. demand another brand new perfectly working unit.,,

 

I really dont think it is defective it just seems like a windows/vista problem not hardware related.

wow, from chris colpic? gee, i can see why ur deter from trying to replace that unit, cuz itll take another year b4 u see a new unit deliver (6month back and 6month delivery again) lol. ya if its from chris colpit i guess reformatting is the best option to try and fix it. I personally cancelled my order after 2months, he kept saying its on its way but i've never once had a tracking number. got my money back and head straight over to PortableOne.

i would consider going to PortableOne website and buy a vista recovery disk. Plug that baby in and itll install everything u need and remove all the bloatware too. PortableOne recovery disk seems like your best 100% problem free way to do a reformat.

 

I'm actually happy, he had it delivered to me in three weeks, and he did overnight delivery to me in Los angeles while i was on vacation there for the past week cuz it didnt make it to me to my house before vacation so he sent the second one out to my hotel there and the first one was sent back to the warehouse, overall im happy but I wonder about the windows media thing, does anyone else have this problem? it just did it again, it was in idle and when I pressed the space bar to bring it back the dvd drive just started spinning and windows media opened on it's own and started playing the disc, anyone have any clue why this is happening?

It seems you have a software gremlin...I will suggest you burn off recovery discs from your recovery partition and perform a clean install and see how you go.

 

why would a brand spanking new laptop right out of a seal manufactory box have software problems? I would think it would have hardware problems instead.

 

When I got the original SZ110 when it came out sony had installed so much bloatware that some of the programs actually conflicted with each other causing all manner of weirdness. To this day, I have a particular peice of software that if it's on when I hibernate, will cause the computer to fail resuming %100 of the time. I would start by disabling any uneeded startup software and get to work making sure nothing unneeded is running or installed. Virus scanners in particular can be troublesome.

 

Thanks guys, I figured ot one of the problems was a setting but now if the drive is off and I log out and log back in it turns on again, but everything ese has either resolved itself or was a setting probably accidentally changed, either way there are some hiccups for sure, but I am just gonna make some recovery discs and pop in my P1 vista disc to reinstall, think that will make a world of wonder? Oh also once im done the reinstall can I pop back in m recovery disc a and choose what software I wanna throw back on the TZ?

 

Hey Rishin, post some picture of your Tz man. I just got mine today and Daam the machine is so small and sexy.

Once you use the recovery disc, everything will resort back to factory setting but without the bloatware thanks to P1. After that, install whatever u like. But make sure u set up your Internet Security first before going on the internet.

the tz is amazing. when i first opened the box, i actually put on those dentist gloves to avoid finger prints. lol. but after u get a feel of it, its really solid and firm. The lid scares me alil. i know its carbon fiber but everytime i open the lid, it feels like im defusing a bomb cause i do it so slowly and carefully. lol

 

Hey guys, hope someone still reads this thread...you were talking about Chris Colpit aka Colpic on e-bay and I must mention my negative experience with this seller. I placed my order for a Sony Vaio AR-590E on July 27th and never got my laptop. I've paid him almost 3.000 USD within 5 minutes from my order and it all seemed to be going ok. Then he started to claim all sort of misfortunes, such as the package was lost somewhere and he can't track it, then he eventually sent it by some friend to Europe (I'm from Romania), then this friend lost it again, then he tried to deliver it, but the postal officers and all FedEx are morons and of course they didn't deliver it. Finally, on December 23rd I've got a FedEx tracking number from him. I was so relieved... But surprise! Since December 24th the status is "Package data transmitted to FedEx"... It was supposed to arrive to me on January the 3rd, but no sir. I wrote to him asking for a refund, ad all i've got from him is "Holy crap man. It was taken to fedex exactly when I said it was. I'll drive there after work and find out what gives...". This was on January 7th. Today is the 10th of January. I've checked with FedEx Romania and they told me the package never left, according to their informations. So, can anyone tell how may I pull this through? Do you have a phone number, a personal email adress from him or something else so I can get directly in contact with him? I'm sick and tired of being fooled... Thanks!

 

You mean you've waited almost 6 months for this laptop? If you're planning to wait even more, demand a discount. The laptops value has gone down by now especially with the new processor right around the corner. I haven't dealt with this seller, but a 6 month wait is just ridiculous.

FYI, he transmits the data to Fedex but never organises a pickup. That way he gets you a "tracking number" so that you think its coming but its not. sneaky F*$%er...

And I finally got my TZ195 . . . shipped the next day by the great guys at Portable One . . . what a contrast to months of being jerked around by you-all-know-who. . .

Take my advice guys -- spend a little more and deal with someone real. It's worth it.

I love the computer. I was worried that the keyboard wouldn't be perfect for touch typing, but it's just fine -- has a real quality feel, a nice touch. Only complaint is that there are no separate page up, page down or end buttons -- what was Sony thinking?!

The screen is phenomenal. I put it next to my old Toshiba R200 and there is just no comparison . . . wow!

And the performance is fantastic . . . snappiest notebook I"ve ever had, despite untweaked Vista.

Only 16 gigs free out of 48! I hope getting rid of the crapware will free up some space, but this is not so good! I guess I'll just have to wait a year or so while the prices come down, and upgrade the SSD drive . . .

I'd like to say another good word for Portable One -- fantastic service, lots of technical knowledge, no nonsense -- worth paying a little extra for.

 

how the heck u got 16 gb free of a total of 48gb?

my tz190 from portableOne has 32.4gb total and i have 22.8 gb free.

 

Good question. I can only assume that there is a f****n ton of crapware on it. I'll ask Ivan about it.

 

By the way, did you have Portable One tweak your system (get rid of the bloatware) as they are famous for doing?

Do you have a recovery partition?

 

Ya i had portablone removed the bloatware and downgrade vista to window Xp pro for me. i found 2 disks in the box so i think their the partitions.
