    FJ170 will not clean install from recovery disc

    Hi everyone. I got my FJ170 about 3 months back and after creating a recovery disc, I was able to format and clean install my own copy of WinXP Pro onto it back then. I was also able to load all the necessary Sony drivers (downloaded from Sony Support site) to make the notebook work functionally. I even remember installing Sony's DVD authoring software - 'Click to DVD' from the recovery DVD.

    I recently wanted to use use the built-in camera and tried to install the VAIO media utility from the recovery disc, just so I could take still pictures with the camera. However now the recovery disc gives me an error saying 'langauage not found'. I then tried to re-install company settings by booting off the recovery disc but get a window that says 'this disc is not compatible with this model'. I went in to BestBuy last night and a burnt a fresh recovery DVD from thier display model, but I still get the same message. I re-installed my XP Pro back again but when I tried to install the drivers from the DVD again, it still gives me the 'language not found' error. If I 'open' the recovery DVD and click on the driver/application.exe files individually, it says this application is not compatible with this model.

    Has anyone come across something like this or have any idea what I'm doing wrong? I'm kind of stuck with a notebook that will not restore to factory settings nor install needed drivres. Any advice is much apreciated. Thanks.

    HI, I'm having a similar problem with my VAIO VGN-FJ270. I've done a clean install of WinXP Pro.. and have tried installing the drivers available on the sony website.

    But the driver listed for my camera doesnt seem to work, i've tried a million things without any luck. Also unfortunately in my rush to get rid of the vaio version of xp ive also deleted my recovery partition!

    Do you have the necessary drivers for the camera..?

    any help is appreciated..

    Sorry didn't read your message. I had an issue with my bios and had to send it in to Sony Service to have it re-flashed (search on my username). You might want to try and burn a recovery disk from a floor model in any retail store.
