    Hello everyone,

I'm looking for some input on a problem I'm noticed with my FJ270/b. When the computer is running off of battery power, there is an audible hum/whine that comes from the left, front side of the chasis (right by the WIFI switch). I can even hear a hum when the computer is turned off.. which seems odd.

When the computer runs on battery power, it's as quiet as can be.

Also, when the computer enters standby mode, there is a whine that changes in pitch as the 'power' light flashes on and off (orange in color, as opposed to the green light when the computer is on normal mode). This standby whine was something that convinced me to return my first FJ270/b, but after my replacement did the same thing (from a different shipment from Sony), I decided that I could live with this and just have my computer never enter standby mode. Not that big a deal.

The noisiness of battery-operation mode is annoying though. The whine/hum is high-pitched enough that it really bothers my ears ----- and isn't a good thing to have happen when I bring the computer into an office meeting. Does anyone have any suggestions for anything I could do/check on my computer to see if I can get this noise to stop (adjusting something in power settings? disabling some component of the computer? something internal?)... or is this just something that I'm going to have to deal with?

Any help/insight/advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks much!

Any thoughts? I tried running chkdsk but, of course, that didn't do anything. I don't understand why the whine only happens when running off of battery power ---- and it seems like I *should* be able to do something to change the way the harddisk works on battery power to eliminate that noise.

    Thanks!
