    Dear All,

Good day to you guys. I recently bought above mentioned unit in singapore and my wife wanted the vista to be replaced with XP Pro. With this forum's help, I managed to install XP successfully with related drivers, however I still cannot get the brightness key and the motion eye to work.

I followed some members advice on how to get it work (shared dll, utilities, event) but without success. I also tried download drivers of BX & CR19 series and still without success.

So I have to post this and seek more alternative to the above problems. Anyone with ideas or suggestion to help, please kindly let me know.

    many thanks in advance!

edit: fn + other key work except for F5/6/7/10/12

I have the same problem with x200 after "downgrade" to XP.
I've found that Fn-esse utl should help, but it seems that it was designed only
    for several models....

The drivers on the mentioned site obviously work. They're from Sony and for Win XP. The only problem, which this thread is actually about, is getting the Fn brightness hotkeys to work.

I have the same problem, and only with a couple of Fn-combinations including brightness. For example PgUp/Dn, Home and End work fine, and the volume buttons above the F1-F12 keys work fine.

Any solutions known for this problem? I put my hope on the Sony Notebook Controller (SNC) driver in the XP Downgrade drivers package from Sony, but this doesnt seem to do anything.

Yeah I certainly am, since i think it'd improve battery life a lot if i could dim the screen when im not on the power cable. I've tried the various Vista drivers/utils but they dont work on XP. Gonna call Sony about it monday i guess, to demand some service for good old XP.

I have a silly question... the drivers on the vaio-link site are just .INF and .SYS files.

Is it enough to drop the files into C:\WINDOWS\system32, or is additional work necessary?

I've gotten spoiled with auto-installers... the last time I had to install .SYS files manually was in MS-DOS 5.1

The drivers package i downloaded was a zip file with a bunch of numbered subdirs, each for a piece of hardware, and they all had setup.exe etc in them. But if you cant find those you can use the inf and sys files really easily. Go to the device manager thing in the System part of the Control Panel. There, go to the piece of hardware you want to install a driver for, right click, select "update driver", "install from specific location", "dont search, i will choose blabla..", next, "have disk", go to the dir with the .inf file and select it. Good luck!

This is all in one drivers for Win XP prof.

I make a BackUP of my already installed drivers from my Sony VGN-CR11z/r Series with special BackUp drivers utility.

It is self extracting file :) I hope I can Upload It here (80MB cca)

    Enjoy !!

I make it for my friends because he has this Vaio and he wants XP

Thanks for your effort, but which of these directories contains the driver to get the Fn screen-brightness function to work?

    Hey,
I am using my cr notebook with Xp installed. I installed all the drivers, and most of them work fine...

But, I have problem with my mic. I definitely works, but I need to speak very loud into it for someone to hear me, whereas in Vista it worked perfectly fine.
Is there a solution for this or should I just give it up?

Man, I never thought I would get more battery life with vista than with xp...
In fact that shouldn't be true, but that's just the it appears to be on my cr.
I did some research on this, and it seems that the problem is connected to camera driver, particularly it's not being microsoft signed or something like that.

P.S. by the way I installed the vaio power management, which works...and still the same results after configuring the maximum battery profile...
By Fn Brightness keys work, but don't change the brightness, I get the same kind of indicator as on volume which increases and decreases in length, but the brightness itself still doesn't change.

In case someone is looking for official good driver set (the ones I have right now) here is the link:

First of all, are ur Fn Brightness keys working?
Secondly, you've better post your hardware list (or list of drivers) that is included in the package you made because we all have slightly different hardware and the package is not gonna work for most of us.

I tried all that driver, honestly, it's just junk. There are only 2-3 utilities, so you don't even get powr-management, wireless switch, maybe something else that should normally be included in there...
