Good news for those who have had the same problem as me. Cracking or snapping those worthlessly weak screen latches.
I have snapped them on two occassion, once under warranty and once after it expired. In Australia, if I send it to Sony, they charge $180AUD+ to fix it up. If you call the official spare part dealers of sony you can get each clip for AUD$25 ($50 in total). You can see where Sony makes their money...
To install the latches, first you need to prepare a clean workspace. Take extra care cos if you accidentally scratch or damage the LCD, you might as well buy a new notebook.
There are 4 rubber covers on each corner of the LCD, you need to take those out with either your fingernails or something sharp. That should expose 4 screws. Unscrew them then use something sharp to pry open the LCD enclosure.
The latches are attached to the enclosure by two screws, so you will need to unscrew the broken latch plastic out. Screw the replacement latch on then reassemble the LCD.
Take extra care with the rubber coverings. Try not to scrap off the adhesive, If you accidentally do, just use some strong double sided tape.
I dont know how much it will cost to replace the rubber coverings if they fall off and you lose them. But i am guessing anywhere from AUD$30-60 each!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. The rubber feet on the bottom of the notebook cost $40AUD each. Price is dropping from $75 2 months ago.
