OK, sonoma platform is compatible with faster DDR2 533MHZ. Does anyone know that FS is OK with DDR2 memory?

I read up on being able to swap out the curret slow DDR 333 for faster DDR2 dual channel 533. The answer I'm afraid is no. The following link is where the info is

    Hi,

I'm looking into getting this laptop and asked the same question to Sony Style live chat support. Here's what he told me:

Unknown: Thanks...I have one other technical question Donald. Can the FS570 run on DDR2 RAM if you wanted to upgrade it in the future?
Donald: Yes, it would be compatible.

Yes, please reply if anyone tries this (whether the answer is yes or no). The answer is a key factor determining which notebook I'll buy.

Well I keep bombarding Sony with questions regarding the potential RAM upgrade, and I'm sad to say that things are not looking good:

"Jim: hmm, so you really aren't sure whether the FS could handle DDR2 RAM?
Nelson: It does not have DDR2 RAM.
Jim: I know it is not offered, but if I bought some and plugged it in, would it work?
    Nelson: No.
    Jim: you are sure?
    Nelson: Yes."

I've talked to several sales dudes and so far 3 for 3 say the upgrade is not possible. Normally I would just write this off as sales guys not knowing what the heck they are talking about, but in each case I made it pretty clear that I would be buying one of these laptops on the spot if the answer to the question was yes. Why oh why would you design the laptop in such a way that the upgrade were not possible? I really hope somebody out there proves these fools wrong.

Hi guys, Im in Asia right now and have been looking at the FS Series. The top model sold here is the FS18. I asked 2 shops whether the RAM installed was DDR2 or not. I had told them i read on websites that this series uses DDR RAM. They confirmed to me that both the RAM and HDD had been upgraded to DDR2 RAM and 5400RPM HDD.

    Interesting but true.

I doubt it, why would Sony switch right in the middle of production. Are you sure the store you saw it in didn't do it themselves.

Plus make sure they're not confused with the "A" series, because they are now using DDR2 and 5400 RPM Drives.

I was standing next to the FS, 15.4" widscreen, definetly not the mega A series (quite a difference). Not sure, but it is a possibilty that they had upgraded themselves. But my point is that the FS series seems to support DDR2 RAM.

If the FS laptop is shipped with DDR-1 333 memory it IS NOT compatable / upgradeable to DDR-2 400/533 memory, as it will not even fit. The Tom's Hardware article from above confirms this.

THIS IS THE PROBLEM I HAVE WITH THE FS!!

I waited SO patiently for Sonoma and now that its out I want to reap the benefits of it! DDR-2 memory is not only faster, but it is much more energy efficient!

So you are saying that in Asia they are selling a FS series with DDR-2 memory? That would hopefully mean it is coming to the US soon?!?

I am in the market for a thin and light laptop WITH the best looking 14 inch screen (widescreen or 4:3).

Sony's screens look the BEST by far, though from the initial reveiw of the Fujisu N3510, it may rival Sony's...HOWEVER the N3510 is hardly thin nor light!

So I'm waiting on Sony's FS series to take FULL advantage of Sonoma! AT least DDR-2 memory, though SATA hardrive would make sense!
