I have a oldish Vaio FS215M with 1gb memory. It is now slow and runs hot so I thought clean it out (if I can) and then either do a clean reinstal of XP OR go out an buy Win 7 and do a custom instal of that. Aim is for my 14 yr old to use it for school work for a few years. So any views on the best way to go (XP would be free so it starts favorite)

I would stick with XP IMO. No need to spend more money into W7 for an older laptop if it's just for grade-school work.
