can anyone give me an opinion on the FW 1920 X 1080 screen option?
Its becoming available on the Fw31ZJ in the UK and I would like to know how good it is compared to the alternative 1080P screens (dell Studio XPS16, HP HDX 16)
TIA

I can't compare it to the dell xps16 or the hdx16, but compared to other laptop screens i've used, this is by far the best. It is very uniform, least backlight bleeding I've seen, and it is appropriately bright.
Furthermore, after doing a professional color calibration with a colorimeter, i realized that the accuracy of the screen was already almost dead-on from the factory. That's amazing because I've never calibrated a screen and found it so close to ideal already. -
if u read the dell (studio xps and xps) forum, you will see the the RGBLED screen in the XPS16 has a crap colour colaboration and a crap contrast.
contrast is about 400:1 - 500:1, and the screen shows colours as greenish, so greys seem green.
the HDX has a simple 1080p LCD screen which has a ok contrast and i dont know much on the colours so cant comment.
FW uses a 1080p duallamp screen which has good colours and is bright.
if it helps, iv seen a 1080p FW and i owned a 1080p SXPS16. the FW is about as bright, has better colours(no green crap) is sharp and displays everything well. while i hated my SXPS16 screen so much i gave it back and ordered a FW.
PS: if your in the UK, buy a customized one of the sony site, they are much cheaper and call sony up , they give you good deals and throw free accessories in. thats what i did. -
Also, I can't compare to the other machines -- I didn't even consider them compared to the Sony FW.
The main thing I can tell you is that I'm very happy with the FW's 1080P screen. Not only does it make the FW a very handy size and shape as compared to other notebooks in general, but it's just an excellent LCD. Of course, it's plenty of resolution, but it's very bright (I've usually got mine turned down to about one-third of the possible brightness), and very even, with a good viewing angle.
I'm very picky about LCD screens, and this one meets my approval with ease.
Finally, so much resolution does indeed make the text a bit small, but it's very easy to bump up the font size a bit, which I've done -- with no problems at all.
All I can tell you is that it's a great screen. I essentially paid $100 extra to get it over the 1600 x 900 screen, and I thought that was about the best bargain in the whole deal. -
Thanks for all the comments.
I was looking at an AW but the size is just too big for travelling!
A pity Sony do not do an illuminated keyboard then it would be perfect.
I think I have to trade either the keyboard or the Blu ray writer in my final choice.
Just now got to wait for the FW 1080 to become available. -
?
you can get the 1080p FW, its availible.
got to sony style site and create your own laptop -
When the 31ZJ is available that has the better card
