Sorry guys, may be a newbie question but I cannot see any real difference between these 2. I found a great deal on the FW 260 here and with similar features the FW 390 is pricing much higher. Am I missing something? Please be gentle...

there are almost no major differences between the 260 and 390 models, except that the 260 is a pre-built model from sony, whereas the 390, like the 290 and 190 before it are customizable ones from sonystyle.

depending on what you will use the laptop for here are some things to consider in the 260.

-slower hdd at 5400 rpm, but less battery power draw (if you need a fast hdd for whatever work you will do on the laptop, then i'd personally recommend 7200 rpm)
-GMA 4500 from intel, so built in gfx card, not really for any gaming, so if you want to game on it with decent frame rates, you'd need a version with the ati 3650 card
-cpu is fine, unless if you are doing video editing/encoding and the like, you'd maybe want a better cpu with more cache
-xbrite eco screen, i'd opt for the full HD but the fonts may be too small for you on the full HD(1920x1080)

but for 899 still a nice deal.
