Just to inform you what performance I am getting with FW and extended battery. Maybe we can compare settings to get the best performance.

Frist try adjusting Sony Vaio Optimized scheme by decreased LCD brightness to 70% and nothing else adjusted.

Wireless off but Using Sprint ExpressCard Inter card for browsing and doing light office work and email.

Batter lasted just shy of 4 hours.

What adjustments have you made to power setting through Vaio control center and what performance are you getting with extended batter and thanks.

Is this extended battery sticking out of the laptop? Do you know how many battery cells it has?

Raises laptop 3/4 of inch or so but does not stick out back. Don't know number of cells off hand.

    Just wondering:
Aren't all standard batteries 6 cell and extended ones 9 cell?
    At least for Sony?

You are welcome and I am still not sure about number of cells but I might install batteryMon and that should tell me, if it is Vista compatable.

BatteryMon program says current capacity of extended battery is 82250 mVh. Sounds like it might be 9 cell to me but still don't know for sure.

According to SonyStyle, it's a 9 cell 7200mAH battery. If you're only getting 4 hours of use, that is disappointing to me. Maybe it takes a couple of recharge cycles for the battery to achieve it's peek? I was hoping for at least 5.5 hours. They claim up to 5.5 on their website with the standard battery, so I would expect that form an extended battery with standard use.

In the specifications of the FW series however, they wrote the following:
Estimated Battery Life: Up to 6 hours (standard capacity battery)
Up to 8 hours (large capacity battery)

BTW, would be nice to see some pics on how the laptop looks with this battery from different angles...

I'm telling you now, good luck getting 2 and a half hours on the normal battery.

do you know that when they say 5.5 they are talking about running it in power saver? they claim 8 on extended, and I ended up pretty close to that when i ran under power saver.

Just to let you know i ran my FW for just shy of 4 hrs today on viao optimized with full brightness and at 80% charge. thank you extended battery.

A fully charged standard battery runs about 3 hrs on viao optimized.

What advantage is there to setting battery at 80% charge and how do I get to that setting and thanks.

its is an option on Vaio Control Center. It elongates the life time of your battery if you leave it on an AC adapter most of the time.

Click Enable Battery Care Function for the 80% setting, or go to advanced for Super Battery Care(charges to 50%) or create your own custom setting.
