I just got a FW140E from Best Buy for a screamin deal! I love the design of this notebook. I am a little worried and might need to some reassurance from those that have had their FW's for a while. I carry my notebook to and front work in my Targus convertible bad that carries then on one side or another. Should I be worried about these power plug or power button "barrels"?

Any feedback from those that have carried their around would be appreciated.

bumping also, but I'm more curious as to how reliable the barrel hinge design is? My dell inspiron hinges are fairly loose after only a year. Does Sony have a better and more reliable hinge design?

Maybe we shouldn't be worried about this since no one else has echoed problems

A few owners have reported a loose charger port, and a couple of users have actually had the charger port stop working.

Try a search for FW and hinge.

I have read the three or four posts but I was wondering how widespread the problem is, and if this notebook is not something that should be carried around on a daily basis?

The hinges on my FW seem sturdy and haven't loosened up at all. Then again, my older laptop had really bad hinge design and the screen was wobbly from the very beginning.

As for the charger port, it is very slightly loose but nothing to be a concern.

How long have you owned your FW and do you carry it on a regular basis?

Like it says in my signature, I bought the laptop around mid-August and it is the only machine I use right now. I use it for everything, from watching movies, to gaming, to school stuff. Yes, I take it to all my classes every day, so the charger and the hinges take quiet some abuse from me though I am really careful with it. I need it to last at least 4 years.

My power button and barrel around it are solid, but the charger port and barrell are alittle loose...just worried about the device I just spent $800 on :D

To be honest, you shouldn't be worried about that on a 800-dollar machine. If that was happening on a 2000-dollar machine, then yes.

I spent $1000 CDN on mine and I've been pleasantly surprised by the quality at this price point. It is obvious that the FW is not on the same quality on par with the Z for example.

Do you carry yours in a bag on it's side or spine?

I worry about whether I am getting a good product at any price point, but I just don't want to spend $800 and then have to send it in shortly there after...

I have a black Danier business leather-bag in which I carry my FW and it fits comfortably on its back (where the battery is), not on its side.

And honestly, I don't expect as much from this laptop as my old Toshiba tank. That laptop was abused to death for five years and well, it finally gave out just like a few months ago.
