Hi, I have recently bought a Sony FW, the 465 series because I thought for what you were getting, it is such a steal!! And I have never really been able to say that about Sony products!. It will be here on Tuesday and I can't wait. I use to be on the HP bandwagon but in my opinion they suck now. I convinced family and friends to buy probably about 8 different HP laptops and every single person has regretted it! Including myself.. I had 2 good laptops made by them and I just started telling everyone to buy them, that was 3 years ago. 2 years ago I made the switch and bought a Sony CR. It has been a very solid laptop for me ever since I bought it. Now I'm a huge Sony fan and just wondering why they aren't more popular?? I went to customize the exact computer Im getting from Sony thru HP, and I could not believe what it came out to? I customized a dv6t with the fw465 specs and it was over 1600!?!?!?!?! Am I missing something? Are HP's all the sudden better than they use to be?? why are they 550 more??
Whatever, I'm glad I don't like HP anymore! So...
Am I gonna like the FW a lot??
I have really liked the 14.1 laptops size. But I really started liking the widescreen laptops. Anyone else made this screen size jump? what were your thoughts?

FW465 is indeed a great machine, sony just refreshed their FW series so that is why you are getting such a good deal. They upgraded alot of their specs including the much needed graphics card. The price is fair, there are plenty of asus, msi, and other CPU comps that have much better specs for the same price. Having bought a MSI ex625 I had to return it within 2 weeks of ownning it because it had a faulty fan and opted to buy the FW465 because I too am a Sony Fan having owned a FE790 for 3 years with absolutely no problems. I did not know if I was going to be happy with such a large device as I carry my laptop everywhere but with a good bookbag carrying case and well distributed weight on the FW465 it feels solid, not heavy and lunky. Im sure you will be happy with your purchase. The only gripe that I have with this machine is the power barrels are a bit vulnerable and can break off easily and the speakers are a bit weak. Other than that I could not be happier!

Have owned the FW 285 for about 10 months now - (was too a previous HP fan...) Here's what I like about the Sony FW:
1. Great keyboard - takes a few days to get used to the spaced keys, but you'll love it after that
2. Screen - fantastic (i have the 1920x1080) great colors, clarity and love the extra real estate for office applications.
3. Altho a larger machine in size, travels well (numerous trips where I'm at and two trans-pacific flights), surprisingly not as heavy as you'd expect. approx 3 lbs lighter than my old HP laptop...
4. Do watch the barrels - no troubles on mine but be mindful & you should be fine.
5. Enjoy your new machine! -
Sony, however, is the best in term of portability. Their laptops are thinner, smaller and lighter than other laptops at the same performance bracket. My FW 16.4" is just as heavy as 15.4" from other brands.
Sony is also the best in term of monitor quality. My FW HiColor monitor is perfect. The color richness is brilliant. The black contrast ratio is excellent. Black is really black which makes it ideal for watching Blu-ray. The shinny monitor is also less reflective than other brands. Not all Sony monitors are like this though. The ECO screen that Sony offers is pale in comparison.
