I'm leaning toward buying a Sony notebook. The 140 seems to match my needs.

    3GB Ram
    2.0Ghz Processor P8400
    250+ Hard Drive - 5400RPM
    DVD DL Burner
    HDMI Output

Looking for a stylish notebook that has solid numbers. Mostly used for surfing the net, dowloading content. Connecting to my HDTV and burning media (Music & Games)

I was interested in getting a blu-ray rom, but not overly anymore. I'd rather just buy a PS3 with the money I save on not getting a blu-ray rom.

Should I look at another FW model, or should I look at buying a different brand all together?

    Thanks

P.S I was told to get the better hi-colour screen instead of the eco. Anything else I should know before making a purchase?

I would go to a store and look at it 'in the flesh' before you make an order. It's quite a big machine (IMHO). If you're happy with the footprint then the screen is very impressive and the 16:9 aspect is good for movies and working with media applications. The 'stylish' point is very subjective - another reason to go and look at one. Most stores seem to have the FWs from what I can tell, so it's not hard to find one.

From what I've been reading here, most seem to say that the HiColor is worth getting, with a few detractors saying the Eco screen's colours were more natural (but obviously less contrasty/vibrant).

There have been a few reports of issues with wireless lan: getting inconsistent connection rates and disconnects. But it's honestly too early to determine if that's a problem with the model or just individual experiences of incompatibilities between routers and laptops, settings, etc.

As for the question of 'another brand altogether', you'll get a much better response to that if you fill in the questionnaire in the 'what laptop should I get' forum and post your requirements there... :)

In this particular case, more natural = more dull. ;)

I would agree with paying the extra money for the Hi-Color screen as I have seen them both in person.

The only reason I have not purchased mine is that I want to do some moderate gaming and the FW does not have a good video card.

hicolor is definitely worth it as we convinced soundsgood, lol. but seriously hicolor is great and puts all other lcds and a lot of the leds to shame.

Very nice. Well, it sounds like the FW is the system for me. Just have to figure out which package I'm going to purchase.

Okay, thanks for the great post. Yes, we will definitely be buying it in person since my girlfriend doesn't like buying online. : ( A week or so away until I purchase it. I'll have to see how it compares in person and what packages they have.
