So, I have tried to read as much as possible and I got most things working after doing a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Vaio VGN FW-450J. The only things that aren't working are the "S1" button, FN brightness control, and LCD switching function. I am out of ideas. Everything else works.

you'll need the Sony® Shared Library, Sony® Firmware Extension Parser Device Driver and the VAIO® Event Service from the support page to get those hotkeys working (should also fix your LCD switching function, though in Windows 7 it just uses the built in function which can also be accessed with WinKey+P). S1 will work but if you want to customize it you'll need to use the VAIO Control Center which should come bundled with one of those downloads.

Thanks for the tips. I have the event service working. My problem is, when I download the "proper" files from sony's support page, I get a message that says the files are for Vista only. I have definitely selected my correct operating system. Confused...

EDIT: The message was bogus I suppose. It's working after restart! Shared Library is what I was missing maybe. Thanks a bunch!
