Good, I hope they start on the SR's 64bit drivers now.
-
Hmmm...why do you guys want 64 bit VISTA? Isnt that OS very unstable and the lack of software is big? Also there are not many programs that would fully use 64 bit techology?
-
the sonystyle web site has been down for a long time now...
-
Yeah whats so great about 64bit? is there difference in performance? but the problem is compatibility,.
-
I think performance may actually be better from what I've heard.
First of all your computer can use more RAM. -
Yeah find someone with 8gigs of ram in their laptop, more feasible for the desktop,
plus you'll have to have at least 4 gigs of ram, which is probably the most i would assume anyone would put in there.
Then only 64 bit apps would benefit which there isn't much of -
Consider too that some people will use their laptops for several years!
Before I got my SZ I was using a Medion laptop for 3 years.
(XP professional upgrade from Home)
1,6GHz Centrino. 512Mb RAM (later 768Mb then 1GB not!! Dual Channel)
Only its Intel Chipset and an 80GB HDD
Now that was doing a lot of multitasking, had 2 harddrive failures, one CD/DVD drive failure, was shortcicuited by me by accident and still works fine!
(Gotten too slow for me though, and its heavy... (installed XP x times too))
So buying a 64Bit system could be useful.
Also, some laptops are meant as desktop replacements.
Some people don't want a desktop as they haven't got the space. I'm sure I'll never get a desktop, I'm happy with laptops, also they can accompany me.
True at the moment it may seem nonsensical, but that's like saying you should keep XP rather than go with Vista SP1 or later SP2.
Or maybe its more like saying "keep of the service packs" (hmm... SP3 on XP caused problems for me...)
As long as its consumer choice, its a good thing. SOme people have actually posted threads in this forum on how to instal a 64Bit operating system. -
The main reason of going 64 bit is you are going to be able to use all 4GB RAM and more if you add more.
-
How will you be able to add more if laptop only have 2 slots? Or do we believe current chipsets would take 4Gs per slot or even more?
I doubt there is any difference betwin 4G vs 3.5G (what is current max with 32bit), not to mention shared gfx, which is every sony vaio laptop. -
Starting this october you can order your fW with 8Gs! It says so on the sonystyle site.
-
Interesting. Is that with 2 x 4GB or 4 x 2GB?
-
-
Great. I guess Sony figures you'll just stare at the pretty picture on the lid and ignore the fact that it's a funky ECO screen and not Dual Lamp High-Color (if you haven't noticed, there is no High-Color option!!).
-
There possibly will be soon.
it may be that they've had driver issues.
(Speculating here) -
I'm return my FW190 CTO, im still in the 30 day time frame.
Sony's return policy starts 30 day from the ship date. Not the purchase date witch is great.
I have 2 days left! I want the 320GB/7200 harddrive, better graphics card and 64bit vistas but with Hi-color screen.
Hopefully sony will change this next month. Come on sony! -
Better check the terms. Usually there is 15/15 days time. 15 days to "tell them" and 15 days to return laptop.
About max RAM in 32 bit vista, better read this article, its not "that" simple:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/aa366778.aspx -
Good link, only there is a slight problem with it.
i.e. I don't quite speak "computerish"...
Could you make it a bit more understandable for the well informed "non-geek" and maybe post it in a separate thread?
Else, let me say it again, very good link! -
I will borrow this guys explanation:
http://www.vistaclues.com/reader-question-maximum-memory-in-32-bit-windows-vista/
Basicly, the thing is that windows addresses a part of RAM for other devices, but in theory there is 4GB available. Lets say there would only be CPU and RAM, then we would have 4GB available - in THEORY -
Another good find
-
This is all very frustrating. I don't really care about the graphics card, but I really want 64-bit vista and I was just informed by Sony that they aren't going to release a 64-bit restore CD for my FW 190. Its unethical that they would sell me a computer with 4 gigs of ram without an operating system that can support it.
-
They work for all FW100 series. You still need to buy your own copy of 64 bit Vista. -
If you look 2 / 4 posts back you find that the issue isn't quite so straightforeward, and 4GB is better than 3GB (on modern Computers).
-
You technically do not need to "buy" it.
From what I understand, the key for your current version of Vista 32bit works with the same version in 64bits. So if you have Home Premium 32, all you have to do is make sure you know what your licensed key is, put your hands on Home Premium 64, and your are all set. And to top it off, because you have a legit Windows Home Premium key, it is all legal. -
-
That is probably the easiest part. Not that I am advocating any illegal action, but there are ways for people to put their hands on 64bit Vista that are not necessarily straight forward.
However, it begs the question - if I have a valid key that I bought and paid for with my computer, and the key is what determines if it is authentic and legal version of Vista, then is it really illegal to download the OS from a less than reputable source? -
BTW, when you buy 32bit retail version, there is an instruction there in which you can order 64 bit for a small fee. You order it and Microsoft send it to you. If the 32bit DVD are identical with 64bit DVD, why do Microsoft need to send you anything? They would have just put the license key inside the box. -
It could well be that they send you a DVD because the actual software (OS) is different.
This tells us nothing about the licence key, as the y still could be the same on both "editions" -
?
Before they have Vista DVD with SP1, they used to let anyone order the backup DVD eventhough they don't purchase the OS from Digital Locker. So, I was then ordered Vista 32 bit DVD for just 12 bucks. It works with the license key that I got at the bottom of my laptop.
Now, they change the rule. You must put in the license key that you got from the digital locker version before you can place an order of the backup DVD. I wish I ordered the 64 bit version before they changed the rule. If I buy a system with 64 bit Vista, I would have to buy 64 bit Vista retail DVD before I can do clean install. -
Hi, just installed the FW-11S ATI Video driver 64 bit version on my FW190 and its working great
