My CTO FW has been on the loud side and actually seems like it may be getting worse... I just wanted to see what other's experiences were.

maybe you could record the fan and post it on youtube or something, at least we can give you an indication if something is wrong. I say this because loudness can be subjective.

Practically inaudible- the only time i notice the fan is when i have the laptop plugged in, for some reason the fan speeds up more often when plugged in.

chances are its just me, this is my first laptop so i cant really compare it to others so Ignorance is bliss.

Louder than expected. I can hear it almost all of the time.

I have the 140D version and it's almost inaudible. Dead serious. I was in a quiet room and nothing absolutely nothing. Maybe it's some of the cto versions but that was already a question in the air.

For those who have louder notebooks than usual: you should try cleaning out the vents. Dust may have accumulated, which thereby causes the fan to work harder to cool the notebook.

My FW11S was louder than other notebooks that I have, but with PowerSave profile (and changed ATI PowerPlay to saving even with plugged PSU) was fan disabled for the most time.

How do you activate Powerplay? I don't see anything mentioning that in the catalyst control center.

Unless my FW is running under full load, the fan is almost silent.

(Vista) LB on battery icon in traybar -> More power options -> Change plan settings -> Change advanced power settings -> "ATI...."

now that you've mentioned it. My fw is not as quiet as my 2 year old fs. I expected something better than this.
