I am trying to get how many of you are experiencing this issues.

that on low levels of brightness the LCD whines and makes a buzzing noise.

I talked to a tier 2 rep or whatever today at sony support and said this has been documented from others .

It's not always on but when I leave the laptop on over night on low power and low brightness and the screen turns back on on low brightness I hear the buzzing, until I turn up the brightness.

However, when I just use it normally in class on lowest brightness, I don't hear it (might be because it's not quiet to hear it)

    FW290 with XBRITE-FullHD™ display.

There's definitely a buzzing noise, seems to vary in pitch depending on the brightness level, I cam _almost_ play a little tune!

No buzzing here, FW290 with FullHD display.

I even tried putting my ear up against the LCD and adjust the brightness and I don't hear anything different.

By any chance were you sitting next to this tree when you heard the buzzing?

It is the panel electronics. Many plasma and LCD tv's have a similar problem. All of them buzz, just a matter of how much.

Had to replace my $4K Pioneer elite plasma for the same problem.

    I almost laughed.

almost.. but reality is as the sony rep said if enough people complain about this issue then sony will actually take care of it.

i sit at normal legnth about arms legnth away from the screen from sections 1-7 in brightness the business is present and loud towards the lower values.

though this is electronics, so are the hp's and lgs i have which have the infinity bright screens and they dont buzz.

either it's a sony defect or something. but of all 6 sony vaio fw series all of them buzz, even the ones in the store..
