I was reading Kevin's review of the new Sony VGN FW and I disagree with him on several points, but his comment that shocked me, was about the Speakers and Sound:

Kevin said: "The speakers on the Sony FW were rather anemic."

I have the low end model: VGN FW139E/H and when I turn on itunes radio and adjust the dolby settings on the FW this is the best sound I have heard out of a laptop. I find about 85% of volume almost too loud when sitting next to the system, and when I walk away I can clearly hear the music on the other side of the house.

Any other FW owners have an opinion on the sound after adjusting the Dolby?

You could post that in the review thread, see if his opinion changes after you help him adjust it.

Heh. :) That's what I'd do too. Adjust the reviewers decision until it was practically my review. ^-^; lol

"clearly hearing the music" doesnt equal good sound quality....for the multimedia laptop this is supposed to be the speakers should be excellent...

other pro reviews stated the same thing, that the speakers were disappointing.

i think anemic meaning this is not only no bass but no midrange either.
I've heard them and although i was suprised at the volume level, there was more to be desired.

i'd have to say toshiba has the best speakers. they put harmon/kardon in almost all their laptops. I have an old qosmio and they are loud and not anemic.
I can make it even louder if i mess in windows settings but then it starts to distort

If FW is anything like my FZ, it does have the best-quality headphone out for laptops, though. Too bad no one cares about that. :( Toshiba is pretty good about that, too, where as Dell/Apple are awful.

I was at a Sony Style store last week and the salesperson let me compare the audio on the FZ to the FW with their in store cd. I can tell you there is no comparison....the FW has very rich and clear audio. In fact when I turned it up loud.....I had everyone in the store looking at me. The speakers are great....I was surprised at the review as well.

"Like omg i love the attentions!" :p

Anyway, yes it seems sony provides great headphone output but the speakers seem to lack something
