I am considering moving from my older MacBook Pro to a Sony FW, but I'm curious as to how loud it is as well as how usable it is on your lap. I hate hate hate fan noise, so this is something that is a deal breaker (I sent back a dell 1530 because it sounded like a cessna, so I want to make sure I don't repeat that).

I have a FW285 - very quiet and runs cool. No issues with the fans. Much quieter and cooler than my old laptop.

i have a fw140, and the only time i notice fan noise is when i have a movie playing on half my screen and a game like guild wars playing on the other half lol, thats really the only time i notice my fan when its really running

heat is not a problem, unless you forget the vent is along the right side of the laptop base and cover it up... that of course causes heat lol
