I ordered a FW490 CTO w/ P8700, 4650 1GB, 4GB RAM, Vista 64, etc. Anyways, I was a little disappointed with how well it ran Americas Army 3. I downloaded and ran GPUZ, and I got some interesting results... It says that my 4650 uses GDDR3 memory, which is apparently the best setup for the card, but it also reports that my clock speed is 450 MHz, and my memory clock speed is 600 MHz. From everything I have gathered, that is below what most 4650 Mobilitys are at... what gives??? What are the speeds of everyone elses 4650???

The graphics card that comes with the FW-series is a mid-ranged video card. It can't really run games smoothly on the highest settings due to poor mapping or something.

    ....K

Anyone care to share their 4650 stats? GDDR3, memory clock, gpu clock, etc? Is Sony sending us crappy 4650's to keep prices down or something? Keep in mind that some 4650's have 550 MHz clock and 800 MHz memory clock... Big difference.

Sony 4650 Default clock is 450/600
    but you can overclock ...

i think that sony recomends 450/600 for more life to gpu

So Sony purposely slows down the clocks to extend lifespan? Sounds plausible. What do you recommend overclocking to? How risky is it?

How is it possible for the Mobility HD4650 to have such low clock speeds?! I mean, my Mobility HD3470 has 680/800 stock and I'm also pretty sure the 4650 should be MUCH better than the 3470.

Yea ... I don't pay good money to get swindled into thinking I'm getting a good video card. Considering returning my laptop now...

Weird thing with the clock speeds since the HD3470 gets only about 1814 in 3dMark 06 while the HD4650 gets about 6340 (taken from notebookcheck). Just realized that clock speeds are not everything and it also depends on pipelines, memory bus width and transistors.

What's interesting is that notebookcheck lists the speeds for the 4650 at 550/800 and in the Sony, they are 450/600. I guess Sony underclocked the card to keep the laptop cool.

And im with problems to overclock ...
When i do overclock for long run ( play games for 2h or + )
    the BSOD is constant =/
By the way the 450/600 default is good also...

    Dnonis,

Please don't post HUGE full screen shots like that. They really screw up the horizontal scrolling of the forum software. It screws up not just YOUR post but all the posts on the page.

You can use the alt key when you do the screen capture to limit the capture to only the active screen. Or import the screen capture into something like paint.net and change the size.

I just OC'd using GPUTool and have seen pretty substantial improvements.... I went from 450/600 to 600/800, and it ran Americas Army 3 MUCH better but then it BSOD after about half an hour. Now I have it down to 550/800 which so far seems stable. Might try and bump it up to 560 or 570/800...

    3DMark06 @ 450/600: 5750
    3DMark06 @ 550/800: 7110

I can't seem to get any Gpu overclocking program to work. I think it has something to do with the low level drivers not working. Any ideas?
