I was wondering how everyone is finding the performance of the FZ with 8400M GT in games.

I am playing Command and Conquer 3 on my FZ190. I am a bit disappointed in the gaming performance as I only get 15 fps at 1280x800, no AA, high details, during 20-30 unit battles. During large battles, the fps drops below 10fps. I am using 162.18 drivers and set the glider to performance in the nvidia control panel. Is there any settings or something else that I should be doing to improve the performance? Or is this the best that the 8400M GT (256mb) can do for gaming?

I'm noticing the same thing; maybe we're just expecting too much out of what is really a low-mid end card. I just installed Oblivion and it can only play it on Medium, even then with a bit of tearing if I move through the landscape very quickly.

I guess we are just wanting too much out of this gpu. Did you try updating your drivers? I haven't installed Oblivion yet so I don't know how it runs on my system.

for the same price that you got the fz190, you could have gotten the dell 1520 with a 8600 GT GPU and 7200 HD included 160 GB... BUT you would have to deal with all the issues they have... weight/size, screens having issues, headphone jacks making distorted noises..ect..

True, but I didn't want to deal with the issues with the dell notebook. I'm not a heavy gamer, but just enjoy playing RTS once in a while. I guess, you always have to comprise a bit when it comes to notebooks as there are many factors that comes into play :).

That's strange - I haven't noticed any problems with Oblivion on Medium + turning up some extra settings. I do get an error message when it starts up saying that I have unknown hardware...What resolution were you playing at?
