    Hi,

I reinstalled my vaio last night after a traummatic event when the hole C: drive got somehow damaged (after a windows update reboot). I used my recovery DVDs and everything went ok.

On the mean time I read the famous (and powerfull) ScuderiaConchiglia's Instructions for a Vista clean install on an FZ190, so I have some questions:

    - how different is the installation between the Clean install and the Recovery Install? What's the benefit when I perform a Clean install?
    - I have Windows Vista Home Premium and I'd like to know if there would be any problem if i try with Vista Ultimate?
    - What should i do in order to Ghost my installation?

Thanks a lot guys, you helped me a lot already!

    regards

The process, of course, is very different... that much is obvious. The results are, shall we say, similar. You wind up with a machine without the bloatware.

With the semi clean install, if you time it right (and that's not a difficult task if you pay attention) you should have a fully functional machine. I prefer the clean install method only because it guarantees your results. You don't have to worry about the timing issue. The clean install method does require that you have a real Vista install disk available.

If you want to try out Ultimate and have Home, you will HAVE to do a clean install. You have no choice. There is no difference in the clean install process between the two versions. The drivers and utilities you will need in both cases are identical. (Be sure you create the two DVD recovery set before you start.)

Ghosting your installation requires you have a copy of Ghost. I use a very old version that is on a bootable DVD. It's a very simple process to boot from the DVD, run ghost, select the partition to image and then the destination where you want the image stored. (The version I have will put the image on a series of DVD's or write it to a FAT32 Partition.)

If you have further questions please ask them in the FZ190 clean install thread. That way other folks can use that as a single source for all this info.
