    Hi All,

    I am doing below change to improve the performance of my FZ notebook.

    Click on the Start Button and key in Device Manager and hit Enter.
    Expand Disk Drives.
    Right click on your hard drive and select Properties.
    On the Policies tab, check Enable advanced performance.
    Hit OK and close Device Manager.

    After doing that , If I open again on policies tab, the check mark is cleared. I don't know why it is happening. Does anybody know why the check I did for "Enable advanced performance" is not saved ?

    Thanks
    Raj

    What is this change supposed to do? Which driver do you have in place? The "generic" from Vista or the one originally supplied to us by Intel via Sony? If you did clean install and did NOT preload the Intel SATA driver DURING the install, then you most likely have the "generic" Microsoft one.

    If you did a semi-clean install or just removed bloatware, you should have the Intel driver.

    Hi Gary,

    I haven't done clean or semi install. I am planning to do semi install soon. I have removed most of the bloatware from my FZ.
    I just got some vista performance tips from CNET site as below.
    http://speed-up-vista.classes.cnet.com/
    Based on the information I just tried to do the change the setting to improve some performance.

    The details from CNET site says as below
    Finally, if you have either a laptop or an uninterruptible power supply for your desktop, Vista offers a way to speed up your hard drive. (The downside is, if there’s a sudden power outage you can lose data, which is why you need a laptop or a battery backup.)

    * From your Control Panel, double-click Device Manager.
    * Click the plus sign next to “Disk drives.”
    * Look for your hard drive on the list. It should be obvious — it won’t be a USB device, for example.
    * Double-click it.
    * Click the Policies tab.
    * Check “Enable write caching on the disk” (if it isn’t already checked) and “Enable advanced performance.”
    * Click “OK” and close Device Manager.

    Regards
    Raj

    Under Enable Write Caching, mine says

    "This device does not allow its write cache setting to be modified"
