Asked and answered here several times. Search is your friend! (Use the search text box at the very top of the page. DO NOT use the two search drop downs available. They are useless, unless you want to search within a known thread.)

The temp of the air from the vent varies based on several factors. CPU use, ambient temperature and physical placement of the laptop. (The latter is not always so obvious, sitting the laptop on a soft surface or even on your lap just the right way can block some of the underneath vents. This results in less flow and higher temps.)

The 2-3 minutes of disk activity is normal. It is attributed to two things. Indexing and, and more likely, SuperFetch. The latter is a feature of Vista whereby it will try to preload into memory dll's and applications based on your previous usage patterns. Now don't worry, this is not using up all your memory. It will page out those items should you suddenly need more memory. This feature really does speed up Vista quite a bit. Also remember "unused memory is wasted memory". All these little apps and tweaks you will see that purport to keep all your memory freed up and empty are actually counterproductive.

Finally if you haven't installed anything, I am betting you HAVE uninstalled something. Vista has an expanded version of System Restore that was first introduced in XP. As drivers are replaced, applications updated, added or deleted, or even documents are changed, added or deleted Vista squirrels away copies of them. It sets aside up to 15% of your hard drive for this purpose. (Yes, you can change that percentage.) This feature can really save your butt, when that inevitable oops moment occurs. You know that moment, they one that hits you just as you click the ok button to accept changes to a file you REALLY didn't want to change.

There you are, next time try the search first though often times you'll find your answers immediately, instead of having to wait for long winded ramblings like this one! ...big ol' grin...
